Chapter 3 – Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables

1) The below linear equation have no solution.

Ans – For a linear equation with no solution:

2) Draw the graphs of the linear equations x – y + 1 = 0 and 3x + 2y – 12 = 0. Shade the triangular region made by these lines and x-axis and also find the coordinates of this triangle.

Ans – For equation x – y + 1 = 0, we can plot the following points

x	0	-1
y	1	0

 For equation 3x + 2y – 12 = 0, we can plot the following points

x	4	0
y	0	6

From the above graph we can identify the coordinates of the triangle as (-1, 0), (2, 3) and (4, 0).

3) The following linear equations has no solution:

4) Find the value of x and y if ax + by + = a – b and bx – ay = a + b

5) If we get infinite number of solutions for the following set of linear equations, then identify the values of ‘a’ and ‘b’.
